The sun was low in the Saturday sky
We set off on a walk around the block
Hunting its glow cast on the sidewalk,
Yearning for its warmth
After a few blocks of cold, our noses red
We resigned,
Giving up on the sun
But in the alley, just before our street
There it was
A wide swath of sun, waiting for us
Like lizards we bathed in its winter rays
Eyes closed as we stood, in the middle of the alley
Our breath slow, barely audible over the chirping birds
Neither wanting to break the silence
We could stand here forever
In this quiet
Just the sun
And the birds
And me
And you
