My garden is overgrown
A green chaos
Stealing nutrients from the plants I’m nurturing
Time to weed the weeds
Shallow roots give way to my bare hands
Others have grown deep, prickle at my touch
Should I leave them? Let sleeping dogs lie?
My splintered trowel forces its way into the earth
I won’t let them in, I dig
Get to the root or you’ll never be rid of your weeds
Keep digging
An imposter, a pepper plant doppelganger
Little white flowers telling me, I’m you
Don’t pull me out, I’m home
You’re not me, but you do a good job at pretending
Dig deeper
There’s thistles thriving, invading
I don’t want to nurture them
I am not for you, you don’t get to profit from my pain
Ants erupt in a frenzy, run
You’re not safe here
This is my garden
I wield the shovel
Ruthlessly digging, pulling
Only tomatoes and peppers are left
Grow, grow, grow
Until they come back again
