poems

This week has been a bit overwhelming. There’s so much I want to write, but I struggled to find the energy. So I decided to post a collection of some poems I wrote this week.

skincare is exhausting

Morning

Splash with water

Don’t wash twice

Nourish with oil

Lather the sunscreen

Examine the red spots, the white bumps, the dark scars

Everything looks calmer in the morning

But cover it up anyway

Dab Dab Dab Dab

Until the spots are gone

Pink blush and bronzed cheeks are left

Night

Cotton round and round till it’s brown

Cleanse with Oil

Beads of serum

Racing like raindrops down my face

Melting tallow beneath my fingers

Onto the skin it goes

Over the bumps, the scars

Some of them hurt, some of them linger

Long past their time, leaving their mark

Don’t pick, don’t pick

You’re the problem

Clean face

But the work’s not done

Swallow pills

Drink your herbal mixture

Time for bed

Not YET

Change the pillowcase

But I did last night?

Too bad

Dirty pillowcases give you acne

Everything gives me acne

I’m exhausted

And no I don’t want your skincare advice

it’s too much

It’s too much

To be a woman

To bleed

To love

To have thoughts that no one understands

To feel deeply

Good and Bad

To want nothing

To want more

To want it all

Sharpay Evans was misleading

More is not better

It’s really too much

always working

It’s just a sandwich

It’s just a burrito

I say this at all my jobs

The stakes aren’t that high

Though I never said that when I nannied

That would be bad, “It’s just a child”

But now

It’s just a product

Just consumption

Consumerism

Capitalism

Money

Money

Money

It’s a rich man’s world
